Darlene has worked with numerous biotech companies and protected diverse innovations. Working collaboratively with clients, Darlene counsels them on effectively managing the product lifecycle. Darlene has expertise in a broad range of intellectual property matters including global patent portfolio management, opinion preparation, patent preparation and prosecution, and agreement preparation and negotiation.


Darlene has over twenty-five years of intellectual property experience in private practice and as in-house patent counselor emerging and mid-tier pharmaceutical companies. She established, managed and grew the first in-house intellectual department at three early stage companies. She has prepared and prosecuted numerous patents in technology areas relating to oligonucleotide chemistry and antisense therapeutics, protein and peptide therapeutics, molecular and cell biology, synthetic polymer therapeutics, antibodies and pharmaceutical delivery technologies. Darlene has participated in the IPO and merger and acquisition efforts of her clients and employers including the organization and presentation of intellectual property to potential investors. She has advised on FDA data exclusivities and patent term extensions. She has led international product launch teams on foreign intellectual property matters.


Darlene was previously Senior Director, Intellectual Property and Senior Patent Counsel at Genzyme Corporation. Darlene has also served as Patent Counsel at Hybridon, Inc. and at ImmuLogic Pharmaceutical Corporation. Before becoming a lawyer, Darlene was a research associate at Genetics Institute, Inc.
